Vietnam discusses MDG achievements at UN economic, social meeting

(VOVworld) - Deputy Minister of Planning and Investment Nguyen The Phuong shared Vietnam’s experience in meeting Millennium Development Goals at an annual ministerial meeting of the UN Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) in New York which concluded Friday. He also led the Vietnamese delegation to a dialogue on sustainable development.

Phuong told participants that Vietnam advocates green growth, social welfare, and environmental protection in its effort to reduce poverty and develop sustainably. He proposed that while designing its post-2015 development agenda, the UN focus on solving common challenges such as ensuring peace and stability, dealing with climate change’s adverse impacts, and creating a more favorable international trade climate for developing countries. Phuong reiterated Vietnam’s commitment to working actively and responsibly in this process.
