With this funding, WFP will be able to improve household food security and community resilience for over 300,000 Afghans across 26 provinces.

The announcement was made after UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said that the global organization could only secure 3% of the budget needed to resolve the humanitarian crisis in Afghanistan.

Recent earthquakes and deportation of migrants from neighboring countries have raised the need for aid in Afghanistan. The humanitarian situation in Afghanistan remains dire with millions of people facing extreme hunger and poverty, displacement, and food insecurity.

Years of conflict, political instability, and the return to power of the Taliban have exacerbated the challenges.
