Dien Bien Phu Victory parade stirs up national pride, patriotism

(VOVWORLD) - Local people and visitors who watched the live ceremony and parade commemorating the 70th anniversary of the Dien Bien Phu Victory held on Tuesday in Dien Bien Province, felt moved and proud.

Thu Huyen, a high-school student in Dien Bien City, was moved to say, “This was a grand military parade. The atmosphere was joyful and happy. People supported the parade strongly and enthusiastically. I feel proud of the Dien Bien Phu Victory.”

Vu Thi Tham, a military medical veteran from Hai Duong province, arrived in Dien Bien three days ago to join the celebration. Visiting Dien Bien for the first time, she brought along mementos of her father, a veteran of Division 316, who fought in Hill A1 battles 70 years ago.

“I always feel grateful to the previous generations who laid down their lives for the Dien Bien Phu Victory. I’m proud that the State has organized such big celebrations, so that not only our generation, but the younger generation can maintain the admiration and gratitude to their predecessors,” Tham told VOV.

Roland Gaul, a tourist from Luxemburg, stood among the crowd with two flags of Vietnam and Luxemburg in his hand.

Gaul told VOV that he and his friends are passionate about Vietnamese history and have been to Vietnam 10 times and to Dien Bien Phu 5 times.

“I have learned a bit about military history so I always want to come here. I first came to Dien Bien 25 years ago and it was really interesting this time to attend the celebration of the victory involving the participation of both sides,” said Gaul.
