Minister of Foreign Affairs Bui Thanh Son emphasized that independence, sovereignty, and territorial integrity are consistent principles throughout the history of Vietnam for construction and defense. With the “Geneva Accords”, Vietnam’s basic national rights of independence, sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity were affirmed by an international treaty signed and recognized by major world powers.

Together with the “Preliminary Agreement” in 1946 and the “Paris Accords” in 1973, the “Geneva Agreement” of 1954 stands as a milestone in the history of Vietnam’s revolutionary diplomacy, embracing the ideology, style, and diplomatic art of President Ho Chi Minh.

Deputy Prime Minister Tran Luu Quang told the event: “With the “Geneva Agreement”, we showed the status and diplomatic identity of Vietnam in the Ho Chi Minh era and conveyed the message of Vietnam as a peace-loving country, respecting justice, having a strong will to protect its independence, sovereignty, and territorial integrity, and its readiness to cooperate in a friendly manner with all countries and peoples in the world.”

Deputy Prime Minister Quang highlighted that the victory at the “Geneva Peace Conference” was the result of the Party’s correct revolutionary path under the sound leadership and direction of President Ho Chi Minh. It demonstrated the resilient, indomitable and persistent fighting spirit of the Vietnamese Army and people during the nine years of resistance that culminated in the historic Dien Bien Phu Victory.

It also established the valuable support of Laos, Cambodia, China, Soviet Union, socialist countries and peace-loving people across the globe including French people.
